What is greatness?

In life when we are standing beside something truly big, truly great, most often we feel very very small. Insignificantly small. But today was different. Today I stood next to a tree. Not just any tree. But a giant of trees. And for once in my life I felt anything but small. Feeling its presence from afar. Drawing one closer, closer, closer. Standing beneath its immense boughs, one could but ponder: what is greatness? What is growth? A strong foundation? A thick trunk? Wide-spreading leaves? Greatness may appear a solitary affair on the surface, but look very closely and what do you see? Not one thick trunk, but many small, weaving and hugging each other tightly in upward growth. Roots both hidden and visible ensuring solid grounding. Branches which spread wide yet also grow into each other providing constant and solid support. Simply put, a collaboration of non-conventions. To be great is not to be aloof or above the rest, but rather a leader in collaboration, and haven for those still making their way up. It is a safe place where people can come together to grow, support and shelter from the storms of life. Becoming truly great should never be about an individual rise to the top, but a journey where everyone rises together, closely weaving together connections, support and deep inspiration both within and without. Look closely and tell me what you see. A solitary tree of egotistical greatness or a haven of connected collaboration? A single tree people look at from afar or one which brings people together? What type of tree do you aspire to be? How do you see growth? Growth can be many things. But I see growth as a tree. I see trees every day. Big trees. Small trees. Tall trees. Odd trees. But today I saw A tree. I sensed it's presence from afar. It's leaves rising far above the buildings around it, almost brushing the sky above. And it drew me closer until I found myself standing beneath its majesty. In life when we are standing beside something truly big, truly great, most often we feel very very small. What type of tree are you? What type of tree do you want to become? How big do you want to grow? What is growth? Collaboration Protection Towering over people or Haven of safety What type of tree are you? What type of tree do you aspire to be?
